Growing up my family had Alaskan Malamutes which started my passion since I was a young girl. When my white male Snowball passed from old age when I was in my early teens we did not get any more malamutes for several years and got into German Shepherds. I set out on an internet hunt in 2017 to find the perfect Malamute as one of our shepherds had passed, finally in February of 2018 I found just what I was looking for in a "giant" Malamute. Being several years since we had them, the market, and breeding of them, the type of dog had really changed. The giants are more true to the breed as many long time enthusiasts know and love. Moot Manor's first AKC Alaskan Malamute came home in May of 2018 (Scarlet), a month later I was casually talking to the breeder about Snowball and that is when Drifter came into our lives not even a month later. We then knew what we wanted to do, having experience with breeding and animal husbandry it only made sense to pursue ethical breeding. We may have a larger pack than most small scale breeders, however by having a larger pack we breed our dogs less in hopes of a healthier happier life. We choose to limit our numbers as to not compromise the lifestyle we choose to give our pets. Because of this from time to time we will have adults available to loving retirement homes when it is what’s best for that individual animal. Our parents are genetically cleared, structurally sound, and proportionate to the AKC standard, just on a larger scale. We look for a more laid back temperament in our parents because we want to raise the most enjoyable Malamutes possible. We are a small scale breeder of non-standard size malamutes. We do not pride ourselves on having the biggest dogs, nor do we promise them, we let our dogs speak for themselves when you meet them. Our goal is to breed the healthiest biggest AKC Alaskan Malamutes we can. Our parents qualify as giants and our past pups are shaping up to be just that themselves. Our parents are part of the family here, as well as the puppies until they become part of yours!
Alaskan Malamutes are a working breed requiring a quality diet, even if they’re less active. Our pack is fed a performance kibble with various additives such as the occasional cooked or raw meat, fresh vegetables and fruits, high quality salmon oil, ProBios probiotic, and liquid vitamin B supplement for breeding dogs. It is not uncommon for malamutes to have an intolerance to chicken, however we are fortunate enough that all of our pack does well with chicken as the protein source in their kibble. It is important to us that our parent dogs do not have “fussy” or easily upsetable digestive systems. Therefore producing easier to care for pets for our furever families. We do have recommendations for kibble brands, but we do hope our families understand the importance of feeding the dog in front of you so the pups can thrive. We also find it important to complete all required health testing (recommended by AM parent club) and beyond on all of our parents. This testing includes OFA Hip and or PennHip evaluations, OFA Elbow, OFA Cardiac, OFA CERF (eyes), OFA Patellas, and Embark for breeder genetic panel (Alaskan Malamute Polyneuropathy, Day blindness, PCD, and DM). Not many out of standard breeders health test so we are proud to screen and test so extensively prior to having litters. None of our females will be bred before 2 years old and our males before 1 year old. We utilize outdoor kennels as well as a kennel building. All of our pack are obedience and house trained and are on a rotation through the house on a regular basis to ensure plenty of bonding and love. Our pack gets daily zoomie time running our whole property as well as the various dog sports training we are doing (mushing and fastCAT). Our pack enjoys public outings to the local farm stores as well as people coming to visit.
The Alaskan Malamute is a proud and strong breed. Their goofy antics and frustratingly intelligent quirks can keep you on your toes. When training is started very early in their lives they can be some of the most obedient dogs you’ll meet. While training is on going and there are periods of regression, there is no limit to the things you and your Malamute can learn to do and enjoy together. The breed is known for being aloof, this truly depends on genetic temperament, how they are reared by the breeder, and how you as a puppy parent raise them. Our pack is incredibly affectionate and loving, we often joke they’re broken because they all are so dependent on their “hoomans”. This breed can be stubborn and difficult, as well as Same Sex Aggression towards dogs is common, prey drive should also be considered when taking on an Alaskan Malamute. If you have small animals or live stock I would recommend bringing a young pup home versus an adult.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The short answer is no, we do not. We feel it is important that our grandpups go to loving pet homes where they will be loved and spoiled beyond measure. On occasion we choose to work with well established reputable breeders to improve and diversify our programs.
